The 'Triple C' Model for Optimisation of Student Retention in Engineering Education
During academic year 2001/2 the School of Engineering, Science and Design of Glasgow Caledonian University developed the ‘Optimal Student Retention Paradigm’ based on the ‘Triple C’ Model of care, control and consistency, (eggs and Smith). The results obtained in the first year of implementation were well beyond expectations and showed 20% improvement in retention for BEng and BSc degree programmes.http://esdstudent.gcal.ac.uk/kelpie/EE04paper.pdfCopyrighted but free to useHigher educationPersonal.Personal DevelopmentCase studyAdobe Acrobat file (*.pdf)
Foundations for change - FINAL REPORT OF THE SKILLS PLUS PROJECT’S EXTERNAL EVALUATOR
“The Skills plus project can be considered an unqualified success. In just two years the project leaders have managed to bring on board a large number of academic departments in an effort to work curriculum change and enhancement in the area of employability. Academic staff from a large variety of academic and professional fields have participated with enthusiasm in the development of new strategies to enhance their programmes. Many academics have given freely of their time with little promise of tangible reward for their contributions. Project leaders have performed well as stewards and administrators as they made excellent use of resources and organized fruitful workshops and conferences. Data collected from graduates has contributed to our knowledge regarding the preparation of our students for the world of work. The project has lead directly to a number of significant publications which are both practical and academically sound. Shortcomings of the project are a function of the limited time frame (two years) and resources than any fault in terms of management or academic orientation.”Foundations for change - FINAL REPORT OF THE SKILLS PLUS PROJECT’S EXTERNAL EVALUATORCopyrighted but free to useAlan WrightHigher educationCareer.EmployabilityCase studyMS Word document (*.doc)

The Power of "E": Using e-Portfolios to Build Online Presentation Skills
In scholarly studies of e-portfolios, the idea of fostering online presentation skills has received little attention. Instead, e-portfolios have been touted as forums for reflective learning (Zubizarreta 2004). They owe much of their increasing popularity to their usefulness in documenting progress towards academic standards (Gaide 2006; Lind 2007). From a long-term perspective, the perceived value of e-portfolios lies in their potential as a space for lifelong learning (Greenberg 2004). http://www.innovateonline.info/index.php?view=article&id=369Copyrighted but free to useCara LaneThe Fischler School of Education and Human Services at Nova Southeastern UniversityHigher educationAcademicReferenceHTML page
e-Portfolios in Music Teacher Education
One tool currently being investigated as a means to acquire skills while simultaneously building an understanding of the role of technology in education is the electronic portfolio. In this article I outline the distinctive advantages of e-portolios in the context of teacher education programs; I then provide the results of a qualitative study addressing the value of e-portfolios in the more specific context of a teacher education program in music.Innovate journal of online educationCopyrighted but free to useVicki LindThe Fischler School of Education and Human Services at Nova Southeastern UniversityHigher educationAcademicReferenceHTML page
ePortfolios
Electronic portfolios (also referred to as eportfolios or webfolios) are gaining recognition as a valuable tool for learners, instructors, and academic organizations. Bold proclamations laud webfolios as “higher education’s new “got to have it” tool – the show-and-tell platform of the millennium” (Cohen and Hibbitts, 2004), and as a tool that “may have the most significant effect on education since the introduction of formal schooling” (Love, McKean, and Gathercoal, 2004). Laying aside new-technology hype and enthusiasm, eportfolios can best be viewed as a reactionary response to fundamental shifts in learning, teaching, technology, and learner needs in a climate where learning is no longer perceived as confined to formal education.elearnspace everything elearningCopyrighted but free to use

Business Skills - Numerical
The test you are about to complete is called Business Skills - Numerical. It is an assessment of numerical reasoning skills using different formats for data presentation. The test will enable you to practice this type of assessment under timed conditions. At the end of the test you will be given some general feedback about your performance.

The test session will be timed, and will last for 25 minutes once the timing has begun. Once you have begun the timed portion, you will not be able to interrupt the session and return later. So it is important that you ensure you will have 25 minutes available to work in a quiet area free from interruptions. If you are uncertain about this, then it would be advisable to leave test for now and return to the site at a more convenient time.

Also please be aware that you should not use a calculator. Also you should have some rough paper and pen or pencil to hand for your working out if needed.
